Senegal holds its breath for Edouard Mendy
Forced off through injury against Norway
The Senegalese goalkeeper was unable to finish the Lions of Teranga’s match against Norway on the second matchday of Group I of the 2026 World Cup.
Senegal suffered a double blow on the night of Tuesday 23 June. Not only was Pape Thiaw’s side beaten by Norway (3–2), but they also lost their 34-year-old goalkeeper during the match. Edouard Mendy had to be substituted due to a problem with his left knee.
He is awaiting medical tests to determine the nature and extent of the injury. However, some observers believe he may have suffered a ligament or cartilage injury.
