PSV Eindhoven forward Lucas Pérez has revealed the difficult relationship he has with his parents in an interview on El Partidazo de la COPE. His strained family ties were among the reasons that pushed him to leave Deportivo La Coruña for the Netherlands.
Pérez shared that his parents abandoned him in an orphanage when he was just two years old. He was later taken in and raised by his grandparents, who became his true parental figures. However, after Lucas found success in football and started earning a significant income, his parents reappeared, demanding lifelong financial support from him.
These family issues, combined with a difficult situation at Deportivo, led him to accept PSV’s offer. Pérez explained that he no longer felt the support and recognition he once had in Spain, but at 36 years old, he had no intention of retiring. Moving to the Netherlands was the best option for continuing his career.
Pérez terminated his contract with Deportivo on January 22, 2025, before officially signing with PSV on February 23.
The Spanish striker previously played for Arsenal, where he won the FA Cup in 2017.
