Players' union calls for mandatory one-month rest period for footballers

The overloaded football calendar has become a hot topic not only among players but also within governing bodies. And on this front, there's finally some positive movement for the athletes.
Details: The International Federation of Professional Footballers' Associations has published a report compiled by 70 medical experts, resulting in 12 precautionary measures designed to protect players from excessive workloads.
According to the report, it's recommended to introduce at least a four-week reconditioning period after the off-season break, before players return to competition. Managing travel fatigue is also highlighted, suggesting rest periods after long-haul flights.
The guidelines further stipulate that players should be granted at least one mandatory day off per week during the season, as well as a completely free week in the middle of the season, with no club or national team activities allowed.
Reminder: The new Club World Cup has sparked considerable controversy, with league representatives threatening legal action against FIFA or even boycotting the revamped tournament.
