Orlando Pirates sound the alarm ahead of the derby: key player could miss clash with Kaizer Chiefs
Orlando Pirates risk losing a key player ahead of one of the biggest matches of the season. Right-back Kamogelo Sebelebele is continuing his recovery from an injury sustained in the MTN8 Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns, and his participation in the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs remains in doubt.
The 23-year-old left the field in the first half of the final, which ended in defeat for Pirates. Because of the injury, he has already missed the match against TS Galaxy, as well as the CAF Champions League clash with African Stars.
Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou said the defender's condition is being assessed by the medical staff. The coach expressed hope that the injury is not serious, but the exact timeframe for the player's return remains unknown.
Sebelebele joined the club in 2025 and quickly became an important part of the team thanks to his pace and attacking drive. His involvement in the upcoming showdown with Kaizer Chiefs will now depend on his recovery over the coming days. Orlando Pirates, meanwhile, are hoping to receive positive news from the medical team before the derby against their fierce rivals.
