Oliver Bearman handed ten-place grid penalty. What prompted such a sanction?

This weekend brings another round of Formula 1 action — the Monaco Grand Prix. On Friday, May 23, the free practice sessions took place, but for one driver, the day ended on a sour note.
Details: During one of the sessions, an accident forced race control to halt proceedings and wave the red flags. However, Haas driver Oliver Bearman overtook his rival — Williams’ Carlos Sainz — under these red flag conditions.
The stewards reviewed the incident and handed the young driver a harsh penalty: a ten-place grid drop for Saturday’s qualifying session on May 24. Incidentally, Lance Stroll was also penalized — he will start the race one position lower than his qualifying result due to a practice incident involving Charles Leclerc.
Qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix will take place on Saturday, May 24, starting at 16:00 Central European Time.
Reminder: The official Formula 1 and Disney pages announced a partnership to begin with the 2026 season.
