Official! Sunderland land Tottenham defender in late-window boost
Sunderland have added serious experience to their defence before the transfer window closes.
Details: Sunderland have officially confirmed the signing of Austria international Kevin Danso from Tottenham Hotspur. The 27-year-old centre-back has joined the Black Cats on a season-long loan and will spend the remainder of the 2026/27 campaign at the Stadium of Light.
The club announced the move in an official statement, welcoming Danso to Sunderland after reaching an agreement with Tottenham over the temporary transfer. The defender now gets a new opportunity to play regularly in the Premier League.
Danso already knows English football well. Before his spell at Tottenham, he had also represented Southampton on loan, while a large part of his senior career was spent in France with Lens.
Tottenham initially brought the Austrian defender in from Lens in February 2025. He later became a permanent Spurs player after the obligation included in that agreement was activated.
It is worth noting that Danso is an Austria international and has extensive experience in the Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Premier League. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is estimated at €20 million.
