Tottenham have stepped up their search for attacking reinforcements after Cody Gakpo changed his mind about moving to the London club. The Dutchman now prefers to continue his career at Manchester City if Liverpool agree to sell him.

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham were prepared to pay more than £70 million for Gakpo, but the player's refusal has prompted the club's hierarchy to accelerate their work on alternative options.

One of the leading candidates is Milan midfielder Christian Pulisic. The London club have reportedly already shown interest in the 27-year-old American, who is capable of playing in several positions across the attack.

Pulisic remains part of Milan head coach Ruben Amorim's long-term plans, despite being left on the bench for the first two matches of the new season. According to the source, this is due to the player's recovery from a minor leg fracture sustained during the World Cup.

Tottenham are also considering several other options: Lyon's Malick Fofana, Eintracht's Jean-Matteo Bahoya and Lille's Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
