San Francisco 49ers player Ricky Persoll has returned to the field after a horrific incident three months ago, The Sun reports. Persoll was shot in the chest by an assailant who attempted to rob him.

The 24-year-old football player got a taste of the game again when he took the field for the Week 7 Super Bowl rematch, where his team faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs.

After the dramatic incident, Persoll has reflected on life and now sees things in a new light.

"I think it changed my perspective a little bit more than anything. The whole new perspective that I have not to take any day for granted and you never know when it's your last day," Persoll said.

As a reminder, Persoll was shot while walking in Union Square park. He was attacked by a 17-year-old robber, with whom Ricky got into a scuffle. During the altercation, the assailant pulled out a gun and shot the athlete in the chest.

Police and emergency services were quickly called to the scene. Persoll was rushed to the hospital in critical but stable condition, while the shooter was apprehended.
