One of the principal challenges facing Newcastle United this season is player injuries. Currently, the team's infirmary lists a minimum of eight players. The latest setback came in the form of an injury to one of the team's leaders, Joelinton, who sustained damage to the quadrilateral joint during his team's triumphant match in the FA Cup against Sunderland last weekend.

According to Newcastle's head coach, Eddie Howe, the club would like to delve into the transfer market to address these voids. However, a day before this, the Magpies announced losses of £73 million for the previous season, and the coach acknowledged that their options are constrained by financial difficulties.

During yesterday's press conference ahead of the match against Manchester City, Howe stated:

"In an ideal world, if we had the freedom, we would have already acquired players.

However, we are not in such a situation. As Darren [Ils, Newcastle's CEO] mentioned on Thursday, financial fair play is a challenge for us, and we have to deal with it.

This is the position we find ourselves in. When will it become a problem? It already is, but we are trying to cope with it."

Newcastle United spent approximately 70% of the amount restricted by financial fair play regulations only for the last season, and the club's CEO, Darren Ils, speculated that the Magpies might have to offload some star players to balance the books. However, Howe dispelled any concerns that Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes, or Sven Botman would be departing the team.
