Moretti Resurfaces After Scandal and Claims Credit for San Lorenzo's Progress

San Lorenzo’s president Marcelo Moretti, currently on leave amid a bribery scandal, reappeared in the wake of the team’s Apertura semifinal qualification. As reported by TyC Sports, the embattled executive posted a WhatsApp status in which he praised the squad’s performance and subtly took credit for the club’s progress, citing his role in assembling the roster and hiring coach Miguel Ángel Russo.
“We are in the semifinals. When we built this team and coaching staff with Miguel, we dreamed of this. Today, it’s a reality,” Moretti wrote, despite facing serious accusations stemming from a hidden camera investigation by Canal 9. The footage allegedly shows him accepting a cash payment from María José Scottini in exchange for bringing a player into the club’s youth academy. Multiple legal complaints followed, prompting his temporary leave from the presidency.
Moretti also addressed the fans and players: “Our supporters deserve this joy. Congratulations to the team for overcoming every obstacle.” It wasn’t his first message in recent days—following a last-minute win over Tigre, he reiterated his innocence and hinted at a potential comeback: “Time puts everything and everyone in their place. Always with God as my witness.”
With Julio Lopardo currently serving as interim president, the club remains in a state of institutional uncertainty. On the field, San Lorenzo continues its campaign and will face either River Plate or Platense in the semifinals.
