Mohamed Sherif's return to Al Ahly ahead of the Club World Cup

Reports suggest that Mohamed Sherif, the former Al-Ahli striker currently with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Khaleej, could make a surprise return to the Egyptian giants before the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
Sherif, 29, is set to become a free agent after his contract expires on June 30, 2025, and negotiations for his transfer to Al-Ahli are reportedly in the final stages. If completed, the move would bolster Al-Ahli’s attacking options ahead of the global tournament.
Al-Ahli’s Striker Crisis Prompts Urgent Moves
The Red Devils are facing a shortage of forwards due to injuries and international duty. Palestinian striker Wessam Abou Ali is unavailable as he joins his national team, while Slovenian forward Nejč Gradišar suffered an injury during a recent friendly against Mexico’s Pachuca.
Al-Ahli’s attempts to sign Mustafa Mohamed from France’s Nantes fell through, leaving two main options: Mohamed Sherif or Osama Faisal, the Al-Ahly Bank and Egypt national team striker. Sherif’s return would be a sentimental choice, given his history with the club, though his signing depends on reaching an early termination agreement with Al-Khaleej.
Could Sherif Feature Against Inter Miami?
If Sherif finalizes his move in time, he could be in contention for Al-Ahli’s high-profile match against Inter Miami on June 15. New head coach José Rivero is evaluating his squad closely, meaning Sherif, Abou Ali, and Gradišar could all have equal opportunities to prove themselves.
