Mohamed Salah sets out Egypt’s ambitions for the 2026 World Cup
The Egyptian striker wants to see his country achieve its best-ever performance in the tournament.
Egypt is gearing up for its fourth World Cup appearance. The Pharaohs will face Belgium, New Zealand and Iran in Group G. With eight days to go before the tournament kicks off, Mohamed Salah has spoken of the Pharaohs’ lofty ambitions. In comments reported by Btolat, the Liverpool forward revealed that Egypt aims to surpass its best-ever performance in the tournament.
“Our goal at the World Cup is to go further than Egypt has achieved in previous appearances.”
Despite its rich history on the African stage, Egypt has never managed to establish itself among the world’s footballing greats. Its best World Cup performance dates back to the 1934 tournament in Italy, where the Pharaohs reached the round of 16. But Mohamed Salah, backed by Omar Marmoush and Mahmoud Trezeguet, are determined to go further at the World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, which kicks off on 11 June.
