The International Automobile Federation is set to hold an emergency meeting after Miami Grand Prix qualifying amid growing concerns over extreme weather conditions. An unfavorable forecast could seriously impact the running of the race scheduled for Sunday, May 3.

According to BBC Sport, there is a possibility that the start time of the fourth round of the Formula 1 season could be changed, as it is currently set for 4:00 p.m. local time. The main threat: thunderstorms and heavy downpours, which could create hazardous conditions for drivers and teams alike.

Recent forecasts indicate that the weather situation has deteriorated: while earlier predictions suggested storm fronts would arrive at the circuit later, they may now hit the Miami International Autodrome right during the race.

If the weather worsens, several scenarios are possible, including a delayed start or a temporary suspension of the race. If there is a lightning threat, the event must be paused, spectators evacuated to safe zones, and all aerial operations—including medical helicopters—halted.

Earlier, FIA representatives confirmed that there is a clear action plan in place in case of weather-related risks. The final decision will be made after consultations with race organizers, meteorological services, and circuit safety officials.
