Messi Joins Suárez as Co-Owner of New Uruguayan Club Deportivo LSM

Lionel Messi is stepping into Uruguayan football as co-owner of Deportivo LSM, the newly announced club created by his close friend and former teammate Luis Suárez. As reported by Montevideo Portal, the club will debut in Uruguay’s Divisional D—the fourth tier of the domestic league system—and is based at the Luis Suárez Sports Complex in Ciudad de la Costa.
What began as a family dream for Suárez in 2018 has grown into a full-fledged institution with over 3,000 members. The complex spans eight hectares and includes a synthetic-turf stadium for 1,400 spectators, a 620-seat football 7 field, three natural grass pitches, pools, gyms, and youth development facilities. The club already fields a women’s team at the youth level.
On Tuesday, Suárez added the letter “M” to the club’s logo and tagged Messi in the announcement. The project’s Instagram page, Deportivo LSM, has quickly gained traction and is followed by both stars. Plans are underway to hire a seasoned sporting director, and former Nacional coach Álvaro Recoba is reportedly in talks to manage the team.
“This is a huge step for me and my family,” Suárez said in a video, calling it a dream come true. With Messi on board, Deportivo LSM is shaping up to be more than just a local team—it’s a bold new chapter in the legacy of two of the game’s greatest icons.
