Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa may be nearing the final stretch of his illustrious career, but a return to Mexico’s top flight could still be on the horizon. The 39-year-old goalkeeper, currently with AVS Futebol SAD in Portugal, is reportedly open to the idea of finishing his career in the Liga MX during the Apertura 2025.

Though he hasn’t secured an undisputed starting role in Portugal, Ochoa’s leadership and experience remain undeniable. With five World Cup appearances and stints in France, Spain, and Italy, he continues to attract interest. According to sources close to the veteran, three Mexican clubs are seriously considering bringing him back: Pumas, Mazatlán, and León.

At Pumas, Alex Padilla’s return to Athletic Club has left the team in need of a new goalkeeper. While Costa Rica’s Keylor Navas is also on their radar, Ochoa offers a proven domestic fit. Mazatlán lost Hugo González to Toluca and sees Ochoa as both a stabilizing presence and a media magnet. León, meanwhile, is struggling with injuries and form in goal — Alfonso Blanco is recovering from surgery, and Óscar Jiménez hasn’t met expectations.

While no deal is finalized, the stage seems set for a possible homecoming as Memo Ochoa considers ending his career where it all began.
