Major Blow for São Paulo as Jonathan Calleri Suffers ACL Injury and Faces Surgery

São Paulo received a major setback on Thursday with confirmation that striker Jonathan Calleri has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will undergo surgery next week. The club announced the news via social media following an MRI scan and consultation with a specialist, according to local sources.
The injury occurred during the team’s recent 2-2 draw against Botafogo in the fourth round of the Brasileirão. In the 30th minute of the first half, Calleri attempted a challenge with Marlon but got his left leg stuck in the turf, causing immediate pain. The Argentine forward remained on the ground holding his knee and had to be replaced by André Silva.
Medical staff at São Paulo confirmed the diagnosis and stated that the surgery will take place in the coming days, with the player expected to begin a lengthy recovery process afterward. This development leaves São Paulo without their key attacking figure at a critical point in the season, posing a significant challenge for manager Luis Zubeldía.
Calleri’s injury adds to his recent struggles. He has gone five matches without scoring and was sent off in the season opener against Atlético Mineiro, marking a tough spell for the club’s number nine.
