Lyon's troubles continue. The club could still be kicked out of European competitions

If anyone thought that Lyon would simply play in Ligue 2 while also competing in the Europa League, that assumption has proven to be incorrect.
Details: According to L'Équipe, UEFA's financial control body will cancel its agreement with Lyon if the club is relegated to Ligue 2. The deal had granted Lyon participation in European competitions in exchange for accepting sanctions, including a hefty fine, strict wage bill and transfer oversight, and a mandatory plan for financial recovery.
In return, the club was allowed to compete in European tournaments. But if relegation does happen, that agreement will be voided. UEFA officials have now requested that Lyon's management provide proof that all required documents have been signed. If the exclusion becomes final, Strasbourg will take Lyon's place in Europe.
Reminder: The decision to relegate Lyon to Ligue 2 is not yet final, as the club still has the right to appeal—and the board is certain to use it.
