Luka Modric Considering MLS Move After Real Madrid Exit

Luka Modric appears to be nearing the end of his time in European football, and a move to Major League Soccer is emerging as a strong possibility. At 39, the Real Madrid midfielder reportedly wants to remain competitive and prepare for a potential appearance in the 2026 World Cup. The news was shared by El Chiringuito, a show aired on Fox Deportes, which detailed Modric’s interest in two MLS clubs.
The Croatian star is said to be evaluating offers from New York City FC and Los Angeles FC. NYCFC has previously attracted big-name talents like David Villa, while LAFC has become home to global icons such as Carlos Vela, Giorgio Chiellini, and Olivier Giroud. Either destination would offer Modric a high-profile platform to continue his career on and off the pitch.
A key factor in the final decision will be his family's willingness to relocate from Madrid to the United States. Modric is expected to consult closely with them before choosing between New York and Los Angeles as his next home.
His current contract with Real Madrid runs through the conclusion of the Club World Cup. Once that commitment ends, Modric would be free to join an MLS club ahead of the summer transfer window. For now, he remains focused on his duties in Spain, but all signs point to the twilight of his illustrious career unfolding in North America.
