Loco Abreu Returns to the Pitch in Recoba’s Amateur Team Debut

Sebastián "Loco" Abreu made a surprise return to football this week, playing in an amateur seven-a-side league in Uruguay. As reported by FútbolUy, the former national team striker and current Tijuana coach laced up his boots for La Coloña FC in the Liga Pro, a competition featuring several ex-professional stars.
La Coloña, coached by Jeremía Recoba—son of Álvaro “Chino” Recoba—already boasts names like Antonio Pacheco, Rafael García, Omar Pérez, Diego Perrone and Recoba himself. Abreu scored in his debut but couldn’t prevent a 4-2 loss to Azzurra.
“It might be debut and farewell,” joked Abreu, referencing a power outage that disrupted a previous match. He added he felt the pressure to win, joking about not attempting a chip shot penalty because the goal was “too small” and he was “a bit rusty.”
The match was also a family affair for Abreu, who was accompanied by his sons Diego, Facundo and Franco. La Coloña currently sits sixth in the Division B Apertura standings and faces a must-win against Fernetbahce in their next match at Polideportivo Carrasco.
