The Ghana national team is set to play its opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup very soon, but one of its leaders will not be available for the game.
Details: According to The Athletic, Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has been denied entry to Canada. He was called up to the national team despite rape and sexual assault allegations brought against him in the United Kingdom. As a result, he will not be able to travel to Canada after being refused a visa.
However, the 32-year-old has obtained a visa for the United States and is currently with Ghana’s training camp at Bryant University in Rhode Island.
Meanwhile, controversy has already erupted at the World Cup after referee Wilton Sampaio was forced to keep the players off the pitch longer than scheduled during the hydration break in the Mexico vs South Africa match because broadcaster FOX was airing a commercial break.
Reminder: Just before the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City, an unpleasant incident occurred near the iconic Azteca Stadium.
