The coaching staff of the Netherlands national team delivered a real surprise ahead of their crucial clash with Sweden.
Details: Oranje’s star midfielder Frenkie de Jong will officially be in the starting lineup for the World Cup match, despite serious concerns from the medical team.
Earlier reports suggested that De Jong’s appearance from the opening whistle was highly unlikely following a recent incident in training. The midfielder suffered a tough collision with teammate Quinten Timber, who ended up with a concussion and will definitely miss the clash against Sweden.
Nevertheless, De Jong showed great character, and the medical staff took a calculated risk given the immense importance of the showdown with the Swedes. Frenkie’s physical condition sparked plenty of debate, but Ronald Koeman has decided to start his main star in the center of the pitch from the first minute, counting on his leadership in this battle.
This is how the Oranje starting eleven lines up:
It’s worth noting that the match will kick off at 19:00 Central European Time.
Reminder: Sweden striker Alexander Isak trained separately ahead of the match against the Netherlands.
