Ilias Akhomach called up by Mohamed Ouahbi for the matches against Gabon and Lesotho

The Villarreal right winger has been called up to bolster the Morocco squad as they prepare for the first two matchdays of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Head coach Mohamed Ouahbi called up Ilias Akhomach on Tuesday 22 September to join the Atlas Lions’ training camp in Maâmora. This call-up comes as Morocco are set to host Gabon on 25 September in the opening match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ilias Akhomach has been called up against a backdrop of uncertainty surrounding Brahim Diaz’s fitness. The Moroccan midfielder, who plays for Real Madrid, is reportedly facing questions about his fitness just a few days ahead of this match against the Panthers.

However, with Ilias Akhomach’s call-up, Mohamed Ouahbi now has an additional option in his squad for the first two rounds of the qualifiers and the international friendly against Ghana.
