AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Morocco Beat Gabon 2-0 in Group A Opener

Morocco have started their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory over Gabon at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Friday.

The Atlas Lions made a bright start and took control of the game before eventually breaking the deadlock in the 36th minute. Noussair Mazraoui found the back of the net to give Morocco a 1-0 lead heading into half-time.

Morocco continued to threaten after the restart as they searched for a second goal. Gabon goalkeeper Amonome produced an excellent save to deny a powerful effort from Nayef Aguerd, keeping his side in the contest.

The hosts eventually got their reward in the 84th minute when Soufiane Rahimi doubled Morocco's advantage to seal a 2-0 victory.

The result gives Morocco three points from their opening Group A fixture and hands head coach Mohamed Ouahbi a winning start to the qualifying campaign.

Morocco will now turn their attention to their next qualifier against Lesotho on September 29 in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
