The Argentine transfer market saga has taken an unexpected turn as Hernán López Muñoz finds himself at the center of a three-way bidding war between top-flight clubs, according to El Editor Platense. The 24-year-old attacking midfielder, currently playing for San José Earthquakes in Major League Soccer, is being courted by multiple teams seeking to strengthen their offensive options.
Estudiantes de La Plata appeared to be the frontrunners throughout recent months, with fans eagerly anticipating the signing of the former Godoy Cruz star. However, sources close to the player have indicated that the La Plata-based club failed to submit a formal offer, allowing Vélez and Argentinos Juniors to gain significant ground in the race for his signature.
The primary hurdle for Estudiantes remains the substantial transfer fee of $5 million demanded by the American club. This figure seems out of reach without external financial backing similar to what they received during the Cristian Medina acquisition, which was supported by the Foster Gillett Group.
"The situation will be resolved in the coming days," stated a source familiar with the negotiations. In the meantime, Estudiantes has shifted its focus to other pressing needs, including the search for a top-tier goalkeeper – with Fernando Muslera and Esteban Andrada on their radar – and a central defender, where Agustín Rogel has emerged as the primary target.
