Last year, a Dutch court sentenced former Ajax striker Quincy Promes to a total of seven and a half years behind bars for cocaine trafficking and a knife attack. For a while, he managed to evade justice, but the law finally caught up with him.

Details: According to Reuters, citing a statement from the Dutch prosecutor's office, Promes has been extradited from the United Arab Emirates, where he had been staying since March of last year, back to the Netherlands. He will now serve his sentence in his home country.

To recap: Last year, a Dutch court found Promes guilty in absentia of trafficking cocaine from Brazil to Belgium in 2020 and handed him a six-year prison sentence. He received an additional year and a half for stabbing his cousin, also in 2020.

After these two shocking incidents, Promes—then still an Ajax player—returned to Moscow's Spartak in February 2021, and managed to avoid justice until his arrest in the UAE. He was detained there at the request of the Dutch prosecutor's office. Throughout this period, he was barred from leaving the Middle Eastern country. To stay fit, he trained with local club United, as Spartak terminated his contract following his arrest.
