As Eswatini prepares to play Madagascar in the last round of qualifications for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), coach Zdravko Logarušić is urging his players to perform at their highest level and create history. Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa, will host the opening match on Saturday.

In a pre-match press conference, Logarušić called on his players to approach the game with respect for their opponents but without fear. “We must respect Madagascar, but we can’t over-respect them. This is a historical game, and we need to make history by producing a result that gives us hope for the return leg,” he stated.

Despite Eswatini hosting the game in South Africa owing to a lack of a recognized venue, the coach emphasized the need of utilizing the home advantage. Although Logarušić admitted the difficulty of knowing so little about Madagascar's squad, he had faith in seasoned players like Sabelo Ndzinisa and Felix Badenhorst to spearhead the attack.

Sihlangu of Eswatini defeated Zimbabwe 4-0 on aggregate in the first qualifying round to guarantee their spot in this round. But they still have a big challenge ahead of them as they try to have a good outcome before heading to Madagascar for the second leg, which is crucial.

Madagascar captain Nina, speaking at the same press conference, underscored his team’s determination to win and boost their chances of qualifying for the finals.

The 2025 CHAN tournament, exclusively for players competing in their domestic leagues, will mark a major milestone for Eswatini if they qualify. A strong performance in this two-legged tie could establish them as a rising force in African football.
