Eight straight wins and record-breaking scoring! Barcelona storms into La Liga history
Barcelona continue to dismantle their opponents and rewrite the history of the Spanish championship! The Catalans defeated Getafe 3-0 in the eighth round of La Liga, securing their eighth consecutive victory to start the season. According to statistician Alexis MisterChip, the team has joined an elite group of clubs that have managed to open a campaign with such an impressive winning streak.
Previously, Real Madrid recorded eight straight wins at the start of the season in 1961/62, 1968/69 and 1987/88, while Atlético and Barcelona did so in the 2013/14 campaign. The only club from this list to extend the run to nine victories was the 1968/69 Real Madrid side. Meanwhile, Barcelona's 2013/14 team remains the only one among those listed that failed to win the title.
The victory over Getafe also delivered another historic achievement for the Catalans. After eight rounds, the team's goal difference stands at an impressive +27, with 34 goals scored and just seven conceded. In La Liga history, the best record after eight matches belongs to the 1987/88 Real Madrid side: +30, with 32 goals scored and only two conceded.
