Egyptian FA responds to leaked VAR conversations in domestic league match
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced in a statement on Wednesday morning that it has launched a full investigation into the recent leaks of VAR discussions between referees in Egyptian Premier League matches. The leaked audio of an exchange between referees in the opening match between Zamalek and Al Ahly Bank has caused a lot of controversy among sports fans
Zamalek won the match 3-2 with a delayed penalty awarded by referee Mohamed Adel after he checked the video assistant referee (VAR) screen. The leaked audio shows him talking to assistant referee Mido Salama, raising questions about discretion and professionalism.
A statement from the EFA indicated that the findings of the investigation will be discussed at an emergency meeting of the commission on Wednesday, where appropriate action will be decided. According to media reports, referee Mohamed Adel has already been questioned and is said to deny the authenticity of the leaked audio. The panel of judges involved in the controversial contest has since been temporarily suspended by the judiciary committee.
