Disaster! Szczęsny comes off the bench and gifts Racing a goal. VIDEO
Wojciech Szczęsny's first league appearance of the season quickly turned into a night to forget.
Details: Barcelona goalkeeper Joan García was forced off during the LaLiga clash with Racing Santander after slipping on the wet Camp Nou pitch shortly before half-time. Hansi Flick did not take any risks with his first-choice keeper and sent Szczęsny on for the second half.
The veteran Pole entered with Barcelona holding a comfortable 4-1 advantage, but his appearance was soon marred by a costly episode. In the 65th minute, Racing substitute Yassir Zabiri took advantage of Szczęsny's mistake and pulled one back for the visitors, making the score 4-2.
Fortunately for the Catalans, the intrigue lasted barely a minute. Barcelona immediately went back on the attack and Raphinha converted a penalty in the 66th minute to restore the three-goal cushion at 5-2.
It is worth noting that Szczęsny had been an unused substitute in Barcelona's opening five LaLiga matches and against Feyenoord in the Champions League, so this was his first competitive appearance of the 2026/27 season. The 36-year-old goalkeeper is under contract with Barcelona until June 30, 2027, while Transfermarkt currently values him at €800,000.
