Today, the Portuguese national team narrowly defeated Slovenia in a penalty shootout in their Euro 2024 Round of 16 match, with Porto and Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa emerging as the standout player.

The young goalkeeper had little to do during regular time but made an incredible save in extra time when Benjamin Šeško had a one-on-one chance, reminiscent of Emiliano Martinez's save in the 2022 World Cup final.

The match went to a penalty shootout, where Costa was flawless. Remarkably, he became the first goalkeeper in European Championship history to save every penalty in a shootout. Josip Iličić, Jure Balkovec, and Benjamin Verbič all failed to beat him.

Interestingly, Costa made more saves during the penalty shootout than in the entire match, having only made two saves in regular time.

This performance is likely the best of Diogo Costa's career so far.

In the quarterfinals, Portugal will face France.
