Diego Flores, the former Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata head coach and once Marcelo Bielsa’s translator, has been appointed manager of Israeli club Maccabi Haifa. According to El Día, the announcement was made on Tuesday, with the Argentine signing a one-year deal after recent meetings in Israel.
Flores parted ways with Gimnasia just weeks ago following a poor run of results and an early exit from the Copa Argentina. His contract was terminated by the club’s board, ending his time in La Plata. But the transition to a new chapter was swift, as Flores traveled to Israel and finalized terms with club executives including Lior Refaelov.
“I’m excited to join the Maccabi Haifa family,” Flores said in his first statement, as the club shared images of his arrival and official presentation.
This new role adds another international dimension to Flores’s evolving career. Once a supporting figure behind Bielsa, he now takes the lead at one of Israel’s most prominent football institutions, aiming to leave his own mark on the global stage.
