Colo Colo Awaits CONMEBOL Verdict Following Libertadores Chaos

Colo Colo remains on edge as it awaits disciplinary action from CONMEBOL following serious incidents during its Copa Libertadores clash against Fortaleza. As reported by RedGol, journalist Nicolás Ramírez revealed on ESPN that the verdict is expected between Thursday, April 17, and Friday, April 18.
During the Group E match, two fans tragically died outside the stadium, and the game was suspended in the 72nd minute after supporters broke through barriers and stormed the pitch. The South American football authority is expected to impose a significant sanction on the Chilean side, similar to the punishment handed to Boca Juniors in 2015 under comparable circumstances.
Potential penalties include a substantial fine, stadium bans for upcoming matches, or even — though less likely — disqualification from the competition altogether.
One critical aspect still under consideration is the outcome of the suspended game. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has formally requested that Fortaleza be awarded the three points, which would drop Colo Colo to the bottom of Group E. The Chilean club has only one point after a late draw against Atlético Bucaramanga, while Racing Club tops the group with two wins.
The impending decision will significantly impact Colo Colo’s continental ambitions and could deepen the club’s ongoing institutional and sporting challenges in a turbulent 2025 campaign.
