Vozinha's difficult run has taken another painful turn.

Details: Cape Verde suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Rwanda in the second round of 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, with 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha once again finding himself at the centre of the decisive episode.

Cape Verde had taken the lead shortly before half-time through Gilson Benchimol, who converted after a Ryan Mendes delivery. However, Claude Niyomugabo equalised for Rwanda in first-half stoppage time, sending the teams into the break level.

The decisive moment came in the 52nd minute. After a cross from the right, Vozinha hesitated over whether to come off his line and failed to intercept the ball. Elie Iradukunda Tatou took advantage and scored the goal that ultimately secured Rwanda's 2-1 victory.

For Vozinha, it was another costly mistake in a matter of days. In Cape Verde's previous qualifier, a 3-1 defeat away to Mali, the goalkeeper rushed outside his penalty area and attempted to control a long ball with his chest. The touch got away from him, allowing Dorgeles Nene to score into the unguarded net. Rwanda now have six points from two Group K matches, while Cape Verde have started the campaign with two defeats.

It is worth noting that Vozinha played all four of Cape Verde's matches at the 2026 World Cup and kept two clean sheets during the group stage, including the memorable 0-0 draw against Spain. His performances at the tournament also earned him a nomination for the Yashin Trophy.
