The governing body FIFA has responded to footballers who have been complaining about an overly congested fixture schedule.

Details: It has been announced that FIFA has agreed to establish a Consultation Forum for professional players, aiming to provide footballers with comprehensive support and to genuinely listen to their concerns.

As a result, FIFA has already proposed introducing a mandatory break between matches lasting at least 72 hours, as well as setting a minimum 21-day break between football seasons.

Additionally, FIFA has committed to allocating $20 million to the Professional Player Fund for the period from 2026 to 2029. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial support to players who are unable to receive unpaid wages due to their clubs' financial difficulties.

Previously, an increasing number of players had voiced concerns over the intense workload caused by the packed schedule, which is fraught with a high risk of injury.

However, it's important to note that no changes will take effect until the introduction of the new international match calendar, which is set to debut in 2031.
