CAF Fines Egypt $5,000 for Media Duty Breach at AFCON 2025
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined Egypt $5,000 for failing to meet its media obligations following their opening match against Zimbabwe at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.
In a statement released by CAF, the governing body confirmed that the sanction was imposed after members of the Egyptian team—both players and technical staff—did not participate in the mandatory post-match media activities.
CAF revealed that the entire Egyptian delegation passed through the mixed zone without stopping to speak to journalists or answer any post-match questions. This conduct was deemed a direct breach of CAF’s media regulations, which require teams to make players and officials available to the press after matches.
In addition to the fine, CAF has issued a formal warning to the seven-time African champions. The football body emphasized that more severe sanctions could follow if Egypt repeats the violation during the tournament.
