Following the conclusion of recent repairs and enhancements, a Confederation of African Football (CAF) committee visited the Benghazi International Stadium on Friday.
The purpose of the inspection was to determine if the stadium was prepared to hold official games for Libyan national teams and clubs.
Although the stadium in Benghazi is nearly ready to host local and international events, the CAF delegation's assessment will determine if it can hold African and international games.
The Libyan Reconstruction Fund posted pictures from the occasion, including Balqasim Haftar, the Fund's director general, greeting the CAF team. The visit was aimed at securing official accreditation for the stadium.
The CAF delegation included Christian Amrou, the Director of Security and Safety at CAF, Mohamed Grimida, CAF's Observer and Manager of Professional Affairs, and Fawzi Jaouda, Vice President of the Libyan Football Federation.
The visit was part of an effort to assess the stadium's amenities and its suitability for hosting African games, according to the Libyan Reconstruction Committee. Haftar also underlined that the Benghazi stadium marks the start of a bigger initiative to restore Libya's sporting facilities.
He affirmed intentions to build five new stadiums that meet international standards in Tobruk, Ajdabiya, Sirte, and Sebha, among other places.
After 15 years of closure for repairs, the Libyan Ministry of Sports and the Libyan Football Federation are getting ready for the great reopening ceremony of the Benghazi International Stadium, which is scheduled for February 17. International football players are being invited to attend.
