On Monday, July 1st, one of the world's premier tennis tournaments, Wimbledon, commenced. Right at the start of the competition, unexpected news emerged.

The third-ranked female player in the world, Aryna Sabalenka, has withdrawn from the tournament. She was scheduled to play her first match today, but Aryna is dealing with a rare shoulder injury. Consequently, she is withdrawing from the tournament on the very first day.

"With a heavy heart, I regret to inform you all that I won't be able to compete in this year's championship. I've tried everything to prepare, but unfortunately, my shoulder isn't cooperating.

I pushed myself to the limit in training today to do everything possible, but my team advised that playing would only worsen the situation. This tournament means so much to me, and I promise to come back stronger than ever next year," Sabalenka wrote on Instagram.

Wimbledon, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments, will run until July 14th. The main draw in singles for both men and women features 128 players each. In doubles, there are 64 pairs for both men and women, and 48 pairs in mixed doubles.

Recently, the first-round draw for Wimbledon took place, revealing the opponents for all the top contenders.
