Bergessio Confirms He Was Offered San Lorenzo Presidency, Keeps Option Open

Former striker Gonzalo Bergessio revealed he has been approached to run for president of San Lorenzo, the club where he played two separate stints. Speaking to Minuto 1 (Carve Deportiva), the 39-year-old said he is currently in talks with people close to the club but emphasized that the idea is “still in its early stages.”
“I’d love to help a club I care deeply about. They treated me very well and gave me the chance to return to Europe,” said Bergessio, who scored 30 goals in 96 appearances for San Lorenzo between 2008-09 and 2016-17.
Since retiring from professional football in January 2024 after a short stint with Tristán Suárez, Bergessio has been following the club’s institutional turmoil. Current president Marcelo Moretti is on leave after being accused of soliciting bribes to sign youth players, as reported in a video by Canal 9.
“There are still two years left in the term, but because of all the problems, there were talks about bringing elections forward,” Bergessio noted.
While he hasn’t ruled out coaching in the future, for now he’s enjoying time with his family. “I love analyzing and watching football, but I’m in no rush,” he said.
