The Champions League showdown between Liverpool and Galatasaray kicked off with unexpected changes—not in the starting lineups, but among the refereeing crew.

Details: According to TVP Sport, one of the world's most respected referees, Polish official Szymon Marciniak, was forced to withdraw from officiating the match at the very last moment.

The reason was an unfortunate injury the seasoned referee sustained during his pre-match preparations. Given the intensity expected at Anfield, UEFA officials and the medical team decided not to risk Marciniak's health and opted for a late substitution.

Fellow countryman Paweł Raczkowski stepped in as the match referee, and this assignment promises to be a serious test for him.

Reminder: Inter defender Nicolò Barella has emerged as Liverpool’s top transfer target for the summer window.
