Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena: We know what our goals in this Africa Cup of Nations and we want to achieve them
Teboho Mokoena revealed that Bafana Bafana have a dual aim at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Mokoena revealed that, firstly, their goal is to reach and win the tournament, and secondly, to ensure Hugo Broos is given an honourable ‘farewell’.
Broo has indicated he will be stepping down as a coach after next year’s World Cup, which also means this is his last Afcon.
"Of course the travelling is hard for everyone but the goal is go all the way to the final. Some of these things are noises from the outside, but the guys in camp know exactly what we want and why we are here, and the focus is to win this tournament for the coach to give him a beautiful send off," he said.
The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder also shared the pep talk Broos had with them ahead of the tournament in Morocco.
"We had a talk with the coach and he said, the same teams you beat in the last AFCON won't be making the same mistakes in Morocco. The standard is definitely higher," he said.
"Our team is full of leaders. Sibisi is the captain of Orlando Pirates, Williams is the captain of Sundowns, and I'm the vice-captain of Mamelodi Sundowns, so there is great leadership in the team and we are all leaders in the dressing room at the end of the day."
This evening Bafana face Cameroon in the last-16 match in Rabat. The game starts at 9pm.
