Ronwen Williams cited lack of reaching their peak level as a team as the reason they could not overcome Cameroon in their Africa Cup of Nations last-16 encounter.

The Bafana Bafana captain said they could not find themselves as a team in the 35th edition of the continental spectacle like they did two years ago in Ivory Coast, where they finished in third place.

Against the Indomitable Lions, the Hugo Broos’ men were not as impressive as the 2-1 result is a true reflection of the game in the tournament played in Morocco city of Rabat.

Evidence Makgopa scored for Bafana late in the game as it was clear that the South African side was not going to win this tie in North Africa.

"We are very disappointed because we had high expectations of ourselves coming into this tournament, but for some reason we haven't hit our peak, and we only showed the best of ourselves in patches," Williams said.

"We have been known to be very solid as a team, because we have kept a lot of clean sheets over the last few years, but now when you see the amount of goals we conceded in this AFCON, it is a concern."
