AFCON 2025: William Troost-Ekong Sends Powerful Message to Super Eagles Ahead of Morocco Semifinal Clash

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has sent a strong message of encouragement to the Nigerian national team and the coaching staff led by Eric Chelle ahead of their crucial semifinal encounter against host nation Morocco today at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

In a video shared on Wednesday via the official Super Eagles X (formerly Twitter) account, Troost-Ekong praised the team’s impressive performances throughout the tournament and urged the players to stay united, focused, and enjoy the occasion.

The experienced defender, who captained Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, expressed pride in the team’s steady progress and confidence in their ability to overcome the hosts on home soil.

"My brothers, the day is here. I cannot tell you how excited I am to watch you guys beat Morocco tonight. I just want to start by saying I am more than proud to be part of the team and what you guys are achieving is giving me so much energy," he said.

"I've had a chance to speak to everyone here, whether on the radio or online, and it’s all about the Super Eagles — game after game, getting better and better. Coach, I have to say, your diamond in midfield and the rotation is working now, so I can't wait to watch the game later. If you win this game against Morocco, you guys are going to lift the trophy."

Troost-Ekong was initially named in Nigeria’s provisional squad for AFCON 2025 but later withdrew from the final list after announcing his retirement from international football in the days leading up to the tournament.
