AFCON 2025: Achraf Hakimi Arrives at Morocco Camp Without Crutches, Boosting Atlas Lions’ Hopes
Morocco have received a major boost ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after star defender Achraf Hakimi arrived at the national team camp without crutches, easing fears over his fitness.
The Paris Saint-Germain right-back has been sidelined since picking up an injury during PSG’s 2–1 UEFA Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on November 4. His absence raised concerns among Moroccan fans, given his importance to both club and country.
Despite those injury worries, Hakimi was still named in Morocco’s 28-man squad for AFCON preparations. His appearance at camp without visible support is a strong indication that his recovery is progressing well and that he could be available as the tournament gets underway.
The Atlas Lions, hosts of this year’s tournament, will begin their AFCON campaign this Sunday against Comoros at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah in Rabat. Drawn in Group A, Morocco will also face Mali and Zambia as they set out on their quest for continental glory. The North African giants are aiming to add to their history, having won their only AFCON title in 1976 in Ethiopia.
