The 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations has kicked off in Morocco. The tournament’s opening match features the national teams of Morocco and the Comoros Islands.
The first half saw no goals, although the hosts had a golden opportunity—on 11 minutes, Sofiane Rahimi failed to convert a penalty. Walid Regragui’s men continued to dominate possession and periodically threatened Yannick Pandor’s goal.
One of those attacks finally paid off in the 55th minute. Amrabat picked out Mazraoui in the box, and the Manchester United defender fired a low cross to Brahim Diaz. The Real Madrid star finished with a clinical first-time strike—1-0.
It’s worth noting that Group A also includes Mali and Zambia, who will face off tomorrow, December 22. Meanwhile, Group B action features two more matches: South Africa vs Angola and Egypt vs Zimbabwe.
