AFCON 2025 Blow for Morocco as Romain Saïss Suffers Early Injury Against Comoros
Morocco’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign suffered an early scare after veteran defender Romain Saïss was forced to leave the pitch injured during the opening match against Comoros on Sunday.
The Atlas Lions centre-back picked up the injury barely a quarter of an hour into the contest, which later ended in a 2–0 victory for Morocco. Saïss went down during a brief defensive phase after light contact with Comoros attacker Rafiki Saïd, but the incident had serious consequences.
The Al-Sadd defender appeared to suffer a muscle problem and was clearly in pain as he collapsed on the pitch. Medical staff attended to him for several minutes, during which he was visibly emotional, before it was decided that he could not continue.
Saïss was eventually withdrawn in the 18th minute, dealing Morocco an early blow at AFCON 2025. The extent of the injury is yet to be confirmed, and the Moroccan camp will be hoping for positive news as they prepare for the remainder of the tournament.
