The Africa Cup of Nations 2025 kicked off in Rabat, Morocco, on December 21. In the opening match, hosts Morocco faced off against the Comoros Islands.
The tournament hosts, clear favorites going into the match, seized control from the opening whistle. In just the 9th minute, Romain Saïss committed a foul on Brahim Diaz, resulting in a penalty.
Al Ain striker Soufiane Rahimi stepped up to take the spot kick, but his effort left much to be desired. Comoros Islands goalkeeper Yannick Pandor produced a brilliant save with his foot, denying Morocco the opening goal of the tournament.
For the record, another Group A fixture will take place tomorrow, December 22, with Mali and Zambia clashing in Casablanca.
