Abel Ferreira Dodges Contract Talks Amid Palmeiras’ Strong Libertadores Run

Despite Palmeiras president Leila Pereira confirming ongoing talks to renew his contract, Abel Ferreira has once again avoided any firm commitment regarding his future. Speaking after a 2-0 victory over Bolívar that secured top seed status in the Libertadores group stage, the Portuguese coach said, “I have nothing new to say.”
As reported by ge.globo, Abel reiterated his gratitude to the club but stressed that discussions about his renewal will take place “with time, care, and respect.” He added, “Palmeiras doesn’t need to do anything else. My job is to help the players and the team.”
Although his current contract runs through the end of 2025, Palmeiras is eager to extend it before the 2025 Club World Cup. Abel, however, remains focused on the present. “There are no starters here. If I need to play a kid, I will. You can’t relax. You have to train in the storm, not the sun,” he emphasized.
Known for his disciplined approach and tactical success, Abel also acknowledged the unforgiving nature of Brazilian football. “Lose two or three games and people say the cycle is over. But I’m here, body and soul, and highly motivated,” he concluded.
