For the first time at the 2026 World Cup, Vinícius Júnior failed to register a goal involvement.
Details: In the round of 16 clash against Japan, Brazil came out on top with a 2-1 victory, with the Real Madrid star playing all 90 minutes. This time, Vinícius neither scored nor provided an assist, although he remained a constant threat up front and repeatedly tried to spark the attack.
Vinícius delivered a corner as early as the 14th minute and fired three shots at Japan's goal during the match. His most dangerous moment came in the 58th minute: after his powerful effort, Japanese keeper Zion Suzuki managed to tip the ball onto the post.
Vinícius's other two attempts didn't pose a serious threat to the Japanese goal. His effort in the 34th minute went unrewarded, and his 89th-minute strike failed to cause any real panic in Japan's defense.
Before facing Japan, the winger had either scored or assisted in all three group stage matches. He found the net against Morocco, then registered a goal and an assist versus Haiti, and bagged a brace against Scotland.
