Bruno Guimarães has surged to the top of the 2026 World Cup assist rankings following Brazil’s clash with Japan.

Details: In the round of 16 match against Japan, the Newcastle midfielder delivered a decisive assist deep into stoppage time. His pass set up Gabriel Martinelli for the match-winning goal in the 95th minute, sealing a 2-1 victory for Brazil and sending them through to the quarterfinals.

Guimarães now boasts four assists at World Cup 2026. Previously, he set up a goal in the 1-1 draw with Morocco, and twice provided for teammates in the 3-0 victory over Scotland.

His closest pursuers are Michael Olise of France and Alexander Isak of Sweden, each with three assists so far in the tournament. For Brazil, Guimarães’s tally is the best since Zico at the 1982 World Cup, who also recorded four assists.
