The world of motorsport has entered a new era.
Details: Mercedes's young prodigy, Kimi Antonelli, achieved the impossible by becoming the youngest ever pole-sitter in Formula 1 history. The Italian showcased an extraordinary level of skill in qualifying, leaving far more experienced rivals trailing in his wake. In doing so, he broke Sebastian Vettel’s long-standing record from 2008.
The celebrations in the Mercedes garage were amplified by George Russell: despite a string of technical issues that plagued him throughout the weekend, he managed to snatch second place, securing an all-Mercedes front row for the team.
Ferrari continues its gradual but confident return to the fight for supremacy. While the Scuderia was lagging behind the leaders by a disastrous 0.8 seconds in Melbourne, yesterday the gap shrank to 0.6, and today—to an impressive 0.3 seconds.
The real surprise of qualifying came from Pierre Gasly. His Alpine, somehow, managed to wedge itself among the top teams, qualifying ahead of both Red Bull cars.
Reminder: The Saudi Arabian and Bahrain Grands Prix are set to be cancelled.
